President Donald Trump spoke mostly through Truth Social from Sunday morning, Oct. 18, to Monday morning, Oct. 19, as he flew back to Washington. This entry in the series Every 24 Hours What the President Says covers 7:09 a.m. PT Sunday to 7:09 a.m. PT Monday, lists highlights first, sorts his posts by topic and closes with a deeper look at his defense of the Russia sanctions waiver.
Highlights. He defended the waiver as protecting peace talks (Truth Social post, Oct. 18, 1:36 p.m. PT), endorsed Netanyahu nine days before Israel’s Oct. 27 election (post, Oct. 18, 7:45 a.m. PT), and wrote: “The migrants have taken over France. They must CLOSE THE BORDERS, FAST!” (post, Oct. 19, 4:16 a.m. PT · View on Truth Social ↗).
Israel and Iran. In the endorsement he called Netanyahu “a Great Warrior Prime Minister” and wrote of Iran: “they have been systematically destroyed, both Militarily and Financially, and unless they change their ways, rapidly, we will soon finish the job.” He closed: “BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” (post). NBC News, carrying Reuters, says the endorsement may not help, “as Israeli public support for Trump has diminished amid Israeli-U.S. disagreements over Iran.”
The golf course. He wrote that the Interior Department, with architect Tom Fazio, “has developed a plan to build a World Class Championship Golf Course on the site of the current East Potomac Golf Links” (post, Oct. 18, 7:09 a.m. PT). On Monday he wrote: “The judge on the case is a crazed lunatic whose courthouse tapes will reveal, may be insane?” (post, Oct. 19, 3:08 a.m. PT).
Midterms and media. “I’m going to the Great State of Kansas today to Rally support for Roger Marshall,” he wrote (post, Oct. 19, 3:51 a.m. PT · View on Truth Social ↗), and: “FoxNews is trying too hard to be Politically Correct!” (post, Oct. 19, 4:08 a.m. PT, criticizing Fox coverage · View on Truth Social ↗). He also posted a claim about North Carolina’s former governor: “Governor Roy Cooper released this man, who then killed beautiful Iryna Zarutska” (post, Oct. 18, 5:19 p.m. PT, with an image · View on Truth Social ↗); the desk did not check that claim.
Deep dive: the waiver post. His Sunday post gave three reasons. First, peace talks: “Great progress is being made, and that includes current hostage negotiations! Signing that document at this time will do that, and I can sign it later, or any time that I want!” Second, Iran: “Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran, compared to what they could be doing, and I want to keep it that way.” Third, diesel: “Zelenskyy is using Diesel Refineries in Russia as a target, knowing that these attacks are seriously hurting the world diesel markets, including those in the United States” (post).
The post then turned on Ukraine’s leader: “He could have made a better deal two years ago than he can now. His country is in shambles, a large portion of his land is lost, his oceans and seas are gone, and his male population is low, wounded, and/or dead.” It ended: “I WANT THIS WAR END!” (post). The post named no timetable for signing the sanctions later.
